Abiword 2.6.6 too, and Windows XP...
The URL is cut just before the accentuate letter. I type
"http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Libert%e9_guidant_le_peuple"
and the hyperlink become "http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Libert".
