Buliding Abiword in Slackware

I am a little puzzled about errors with building Abiword 2.6.8 on
Slackware.
I tried to build from an updated version of the Slackbuild at
slackbuilds.org. Since this did not build correctly, I tried to build
from the main source.
After configure, I get this:

Type make to build AbiWord.

That looks about right to me.
When I do make, however, I end up with the following:
