I wonder if this is problem with gdk and 8-bit displays. Are
you running an X server with an 8 bit display depth?
Less likely, it could also be a problem with libpng and
the data it's returning.
We'll soon have a working Solaris installation locally and
I'll take a look from its console. I've run AbiWord (our
packages) on its 8-bit X server with no problems.
